Okay, Ladies… June 15, 2008

I have to admit, I think I see you all doing a much better job in applying and reapplying sunscreen and wearing your hats at the pool.  But there are a couple of you stragglers still with your Banana Boat Tanning Oil spraying yourselves down like an oil slick.  Now the business person in me sees dollars signs because come winter when the dark spots don’t fade you’ll come to me but the general wellness person in me says “Please Stop!”.  At facelogic, we take sun safety very seriously.  See our summer ad campaign below….

At our Grand Opening in July, we will be giving away “Sun Safe Pails” with sunscreen, hats and glasses to help everyone stay sun safe!  So come out and join us the week of July 8th for your chance to win!

It’s a Fact of Life: As we age, our skin thins and wrinkles gradually develop!  Trust me, I know! Your skin is made up of three layers. The thin protective layer, or epidermis, consists of rows of cells that resemble bricks in a wall. The middle layer, or dermis, contains connective tissue, sweat glands, nerves and cells that produce collagen. The base, or subcutaneous layer, is composed of connective tissue and fat tissue. So what triggers a wrinkle?  A couple of things including: Ultraviolet (UV) Rays from the sun injure the epidermis and dermis, causing their structures to weaken.  Also, free radicals, highly reactive molecules created by factors like smoking, caffeine (ugh – so painful for us Starbucks lovers) and UV rays, damage skin cells. Lastly, facial expressions trigger small temporary folds in the skin to form where our muscles move. As we age, the underlying collagen develops a memory of each crease.  Aging causes the epidermis to thin and the connective tissue to weaken. Ugh so what’s a thirty something girl to do? Take preventative measures: 1.) Be smart about skin care. Use products with active ingredients that have been scientifically proven to work. (At facelogic, we love the Peter Thomas Roth Unwrinkle Serum) 2.) Therapeutic Facial Treatments. Receive facials that incorporate products and methods that help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A monthly facial with facelogic’s unique monthly membership program is a GREAT way to start!

Why spend more on nails than on your face? March 27, 2008

This phenomenon exclusive to Atlanta women amazes me.  As I am very familiar with the grooming habits of New York and LA women (crazy travel schedule and all), I am always amazed comparatively how women in the ATL are far more inclined to spend time and money every two week on mani’s and pedi’s then they are to spend on facials and skincare.  Now, don’t get me wrong – I love a mani/pedi combo as much as the next girl (to a fault my husband would say – love you hon :) but why is it our NY and LA counterparts are so much more likely to spend money on facial upkeep than we are?  It can’t be the time because I see you ladies there every two weeks getting your fill-in so you can sport this lovely look…

 tootsies

Well long-nailed beauties, its my hope that facelogic will help to change that.  Let’s catch up to our NY and LA sisters and get a facial once a month (minimally).  facelogic makes it affordable with our unique membership program.  Let’s raise the bar girls!!!!

A Recent Study Finds…. March 4, 2008

I have struggled with acne my entire life from pubescence on through my adulthood.  I have tried everything to fix or even just mitigate it: creams, masks, doctors visits.  You name it - I have tried it.  At one point, I was trying a chemical peel once a week from my dermatologist to just try and control it.   So when I read studies and their new findings about the most effective treatments associated with the treatment of acne – I tend to sit up and take notice.

Here is what some of the most recent studies have to say: “Research recently performed at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine indicated alpha and beta hydroxy acids can be useful in treating acne, providing a larger range of options for acne treatments. Chemical peels using either alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid are both highly effective in treating mild to moderately severe facial acne, researchers at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine have found–the first study to compare the two different types of acid peels as therapies for the skin disorder. Peels using beta hydroxy acid (or BHA) had slightly fewer side effects and results that lasted a bit longer than did peels using alpha hydroxy acid (or AHA), the study found. But overall, both types of treatments were similarly effective in reducing lesions caused by acne vulgaris, the medical term for common facial acne, which affects some 85% of all people 12 to 24 years old.”

Of course at facelogic, we offer an alpha/beta hydroxy acne facial treatment designed specifically for people like me who want to work on controlling and abolishing acne from your face.  More frequent alpha/beta facial will result in smoother blemish-free skin.  With the facelogic unique membership program, you can come in once a month for $49 and ensure that you are staying on top of both the latest in skincare research and those pesky pimples we all hate!
