After 4 months and $3,000 unbudgeted dollars, we finally have a permit to build out our space. We plan to get started right away and look to have a Grand Opening date to publish soon. Thanks to everyone for their support throughout this challenging period. We appreciate all the encouragement – it means the world to us!
So I was out and about in Kennesaw today in my facelogic gear (hat, bag and shirt) during Big Shanty Days which is an annual Spring festival. There we lots of vendors hocking their wares – including my sister. She runs a business called Lil’Lissy that does embroidering and other cute stuff. She and some friends had their booth all set up and were enjoying themselves. We had hoped to be far enough along to be able to be passing out grand opening material but no such luck. For those of you who have driven by the spa location on Barrett Parkway, you may have noticed that there is a sign on the pylon out in front of the store that actually says facelogic. At this point, its the little things that make me happy! We might actually have a permit on Monday as well and if we do we will post a picture of the actual permit online (if only the validate its fabled existence – kinda like the Lockness moster). In the meantime its the little things….
We at long last have a resolution to our two bathroom quandary. The SBA has finally removed the two bathroom requirement via affidavit for facelogic franchises. Thankfully, it was not too late to change – our builder has been very accommodating. This will save us a bunch of money so be happy for us! Now maybe we can afford to have one that looks like this…
Not every aspect of this business is beautiful and glamorous! There are definitely some things that are down right Blah! Take for instance, signage. While very important to a business (conveying who we are and what we do), not exactly at the top of the most glam list. However, we need it so it gets done. But getting it done is no small feat. We have to submit specs and designs and elevations. We need sign-offs (no pun intended this time), we need landlord approvals and final fabrication checks. We have been very fortunate to have the skilled people at Marietta Signs helping us through this process (chat with Luis D. for your sign needs). Hopefully, the end result will be this….
We will know in a week or so so stay tuned for actual pictures of our sign up at the Shoppes at Ridenour. But none the less I had to go through fun stuff like this (below)…. to get there!
Today is the first day of construction at the spa. Good news in that we are actually under way – bad news in that the timeline is ridiculously tight. I have begun ordering product, marketing materials, equipment and supplies. If it wasn’t real in the past – it most certainly is now. Our contractor Scott says 30 days – so keep your fingers cross for us that in a month we are moving in cabinet, curtains and appliances. We are now officially hiring Skin Care Therapists so if you know any licensed estheticians send them my way!
Ah, there is nothing I love more than a rule just for the sake of a rule. We found out today that the Federal Government requires two bathrooms (one men’s and one women’s) for the SBA Loan holders. So much fun this process has been! In the meantime, check out the lovely single bathroom in Irvine California.
So in the state of Georgia you need a license to open a spa – no surprise. BUT – your spa name MUST contain one of the following words “shop” or “salon”. Now seeing as my spa is neither a.) a shop nor b.) a salon – I would imagine that is a problem. Additionally, there is no way to expedite said license for a quick turn around for any reason like in our case: to close on our SBA loan. So we will wait the 7 to 10 business days for the State Board of Cosmetology to deign us worthy of a permit. Ah, the beauty of bureaucracy….
