Why spend more on nails than on your face? March 27, 2008

This phenomenon exclusive to Atlanta women amazes me.  As I am very familiar with the grooming habits of New York and LA women (crazy travel schedule and all), I am always amazed comparatively how women in the ATL are far more inclined to spend time and money every two week on mani’s and pedi’s then they are to spend on facials and skincare.  Now, don’t get me wrong – I love a mani/pedi combo as much as the next girl (to a fault my husband would say – love you hon :) but why is it our NY and LA counterparts are so much more likely to spend money on facial upkeep than we are?  It can’t be the time because I see you ladies there every two weeks getting your fill-in so you can sport this lovely look…

Well long-nailed beauties, its my hope that facelogic will help to change that.  Let’s catch up to our NY and LA sisters and get a facial once a month (minimally).  facelogic makes it affordable with our unique membership program.  Let’s raise the bar girls!!!!

The vernal equinox was on Thursday when we have as many hours of light as we do dark.  And the flowers are blooming (well at least they are in Atlanta – sorry Philly-dwellers).  I embrace the warmer days and how the trees are budding and promise lush green foliage soon.  Prepare for shallowness: mostly its an excuse to try something new like a hair-do, clothes and especially make up.  I love new ideas and looks that come with the change of seasons.  Check out this Sue Devitt look from LA Make-up artist Sabrina Pena at Sue Devitt…

So several of you have asked me what the spa will look like and I do have some pictures as the build out is pretty similar from spa to spa.  I have the floor plan and the orientation of the furniture and the desk, etc.  I will post them here but what you don’t get a feel of is the spa experience from the pictures.  The goal is to create a high end spa experience at an affordbale price.  I know you don’t believe me but it CAN be done.  At facelogic, you will receive a high-end spa experience for a fraction of the cost.  As I have said before, our goal is affordable luxury!  The look is clean and simple yet rich with dark wood floors and shelving.  The boutique area is well laid out ….

We at long last have a resolution to our two bathroom quandary.  The SBA has finally removed the two bathroom requirement via affidavit for facelogic franchises.  Thankfully, it was not too late to change – our builder has been very accommodating.  This will save us a bunch of money so be happy for us!  Now maybe we can afford to have one that looks like this…

You Know You Did It… March 12, 2008

We all did!  Baked in the sun with baby oil until we were dark and crispy as teenagers (maybe even some of us when we were old enough to know better).  I remember a summer with my sister laying on the back deck of our house on some sort of tanning blanket ( you know you did it, Amy – don’t lie:).  But now of course I am paying the price with dark spots and wrinkles.  I hate them!  But its too late to go back now so I have to work extra hard to get rid of them.  I guess I should look on the bright side in that I do not yet look like this…

too much tanning

At facelogic, we offer a lightening masque (its an upgrade) that combats the dark splotches and “freckles” (we all know they are sun spots but freckles sounds better).  You will see a noticeable difference with the very first treatment.  I had one back in November and was amazed by the results.

But we all know this could have been presented with a little sunscreen!  Sunscreen should be applied every day to exposed skin, not just if you are going to be in the sun. While UVB rays cannot penetrate glass windows, UVA rays can, leaving you prone to these damaging effects if unprotected. For days when you are going to be indoors, apply sunscreen on the areas not covered by clothing, such as the face and hands. Sunscreens can be applied under makeup, or alternatively, there are many cosmetic products available that contain sunscreens for daily use because sun protection is the principal means of preventing premature aging and skin cancer. It’s never too late to protect yourself from the sun and minimize your future risk of skin cancer.  Don’t reserve the use of sunscreen only for sunny days. Even on a cloudy day, up to 80 percent of the sun’s ultraviolet rays can pass through the clouds. In addition, sand reflects 25 percent of the sun’s rays and snow reflects 80 percent of the sun’s rays.

And for goodness sakes – please don’t let me see you any where near the baby oil!

A Recent Study Finds…. March 4, 2008

I have struggled with acne my entire life from pubescence on through my adulthood.  I have tried everything to fix or even just mitigate it: creams, masks, doctors visits.  You name it - I have tried it.  At one point, I was trying a chemical peel once a week from my dermatologist to just try and control it.   So when I read studies and their new findings about the most effective treatments associated with the treatment of acne – I tend to sit up and take notice.

Here is what some of the most recent studies have to say: “Research recently performed at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine indicated alpha and beta hydroxy acids can be useful in treating acne, providing a larger range of options for acne treatments. Chemical peels using either alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid are both highly effective in treating mild to moderately severe facial acne, researchers at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine have found–the first study to compare the two different types of acid peels as therapies for the skin disorder. Peels using beta hydroxy acid (or BHA) had slightly fewer side effects and results that lasted a bit longer than did peels using alpha hydroxy acid (or AHA), the study found. But overall, both types of treatments were similarly effective in reducing lesions caused by acne vulgaris, the medical term for common facial acne, which affects some 85% of all people 12 to 24 years old.”

Of course at facelogic, we offer an alpha/beta hydroxy acne facial treatment designed specifically for people like me who want to work on controlling and abolishing acne from your face.  More frequent alpha/beta facial will result in smoother blemish-free skin.  With the facelogic unique membership program, you can come in once a month for $49 and ensure that you are staying on top of both the latest in skincare research and those pesky pimples we all hate!

I have mentioned before that we will be featuring Sue Devitt Cosmetics at the spa when we open in April.  I have worked with the product and it is amazing.  It’s an all natural seaweed based make up that is actually good for your skin.  It is specifically formulated to be worn after a facial so as to not undo the benefits or any treatment you receive.

So it is always exciting when a product we feature is spotted in a national publication.  In this case, Sue Devitt’s Eye Intensifier Pencils were featured in Allure Magazine in February on the always amazing Donatella Versace with Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover…

Both are gorgeous!  I can’t wait to have everyone in for make-over month in May when you can try them out!

Clearly I am obsessed with this topic, so bear with me.

Recently an Asian American friend of mine lamented how she could not where mascara because it covers her lids when her lack of an eyelid fold naturally lands on newly painted lashes.  I told her she is perfect candidate for eyelash extensions (you know, marketing genius that I am :) .  In fact, Asian American women are the number one consumers of eyelash extensions in the US.  Extension manufacturers actually make a special lash just for Asian shaped eyes called the J lash.  Shaped like a J, these lashes allow for the lash to reach out from behind the lid and fold to open up the eye.  This enables Asian eyes to get an effect like this…
